Schedule a survey

Use this guide to set the dates on which a survey starts and ends. For admins and survey creators.

Survey Scheduler sets a start date and an end date for a survey. A scheduled job runs every day at 12 AM. It publishes a scheduled draft survey when its dates include today, and it archives a published survey after its end date.

Before you start

  • The scheduled job must be running. If it is not, the Schedule Survey dialog shows the warning "The scheduled job is currently not running. Scheduling the survey at this time will have no effect."
  • An admin starts the job once, as described in the next section.

Start the scheduled job (admins)

  1. Open InPoll and go to the Surveys tab.
  2. Click the settings link next to Survey Templates.
  3. Find Start Scheduled Job to Activate/Deactivate Survey.
  4. Click Start Scheduled Job.

Set the survey dates

  1. Open InPoll and go to the Surveys tab.
  2. Select the survey.
  3. In the panel on the left, click Survey Scheduler.

  1. In the Schedule Survey dialog, enter a Start Date and an End Date.

  1. Optional: Select Keep Published to set the End Date to one year after the Start Date.
  2. Click Save.

InPoll shows the message "Survey scheduling details are saved successfully!" The Start Date and End Date appear at the bottom of the left panel.

What the scheduler does

  • When the Start Date arrives, the job publishes the draft survey. It sets the Start Date to that day and the End Date to one year later.
  • When the End Date has passed, the job archives the published survey.
  • When you publish a survey yourself, InPoll sets the Start Date to today. It keeps the End Date you set, or sets it to one year from today if there is none.
  • If a survey is already scheduled, the dialog shows "The survey has already been scheduled." and you cannot change the Start Date.

Date checks

InPoll shows an error and does not save the dates in these cases:

  • The Start Date is empty.
  • The End Date is empty and Keep Published is not selected.
  • The Start Date is later than the End Date.
  • The Start Date or the End Date is earlier than today.
